2. Washington drops home game to Cal

Initially, this game wasn’t going to be considered a “bad” loss for Washington because the California Bears were underrated heading into the week. However after looking at the deeper implications of a 20-19 home loss for the Huskies, I realized how meaningful it was. Washington was ranked at 14 before the match. Yet, this loss may have actually cost the Pac-12 at a chance for a spot in the 2019 College Football Playoff.

Utah’s strength of schedule won’t likely be tough enough to convince the committee they deserve a spot — even if they remain undefeated. Oregon’s Week 1 loss to the Auburn Tigers counts them out. And now, a one-loss Washington Huskies team won’t be playoff quality either.

Given the presence of Jacob Eason at quarterback, there was no reason Chris Peterson’s squad should have loss to Cal for the second year in a row. At this point, the Huskies are going to be lucky if they get the chance to represent the Pac-12 North in the Pac-12 Championship Game.
