Week 3’s slate in college football is a bit of a dud, but these kind of weekends have typically produced chaos in the past. Might we see that again?
The most innocuous of college football weekends have traditionally produced the wackiest of results. On the surface, with no ranked-versus-ranked matchups on the docket, week three seems like a giant dud, but there’s still some quality matchups across the board with the potential for chaos to reign and upset the established order.
A couple big games lost some intrigue with stunning defeats and lackluster performances. Iowa and Iowa State should have produced two ranked teams facing off, but the Cyclones barely survived in overtime against an FCS opponent in week one.
Syracuse has pushed Clemson to the brink two seasons in a row, but the Orange were blasted on the road against Maryland last week and opened as four touchdown underdogs against the Tigers even with the game at the Carrier Dome.
Several other highly ranked teams take to the road for potential trap games. Alabama travels to South Carolina, Oklahoma is in Pasadena against UCLA, Florida battles Kentucky in Lexington, and Ohio State faces off with Indiana in Bloomington. Are any of those teams on upset alert this weekend?
My picks have gotten off to a hot start in 2019, both straight up and against-the-spread. I’ve gone 6-4 against-the-spread in each week so far for a 60 percent win rate. That means I’ve either found the right formula, or we’re do for a massive course-correction this week.
Let’s find out.
2019 Record: 17-3 straight up, 12-8 ATS
