1. Weird things are going to happen in Provo at night

BYU better start sacrificing to the football gods tonight in hopes of an upset. Rarely are there upsets like the Tennessee vs. Georgia State or Boise State vs. Florida State. In the former, Georgia State never backed down from Tennessee, and when the Panthers bowed up and got physical against the Volunteers, they outplayed them — on Rocky Top.

Florida State looked fantastic against Boise for a half, and then decided they weren’t going to play football in the second half getting shut out, and give up 17 points in the second half.

No, upsets are more like “The Prayer at Jordan Hare” or the Michigan State “Little Giants” play against Notre Dame. Freaky things happen in upset games like the “Moth Game” when USC visited Washington State a couple of years ago. Who summons moths to distract the road team?

It would be shocking if BYU simply lined up and made USC wilt in the fourth quarter, or the Trojans get out to a nice lead and decide not to play. Besides they came back from a two-touchdown deficit to beat Stanford, so they know to be careful of that one.

The Cougars are going to need some of that left over Volunteer dust, and that thin mountain air for a weird-freaky game to win this one. They are going to need those penalties to get USC off schedule, and for Kedon Slovis to make freshman mistakes (maybe he’ll take a sack instead of throwing it away) to get the Trojans off the field.

Maybe we’ll see some trickery from Kalani Sitake and his staff. Whatever happens, this would truly be an upset with some crazy plays.
