1. Notre Dame shuts out the Lobos

Outside of Bowling Green State, New Mexico will most likely end up being the easiest opponent on Notre Dame’s 2019 schedule. While the 2018 season showed us why no team should be underestimated, the Irish would truly have no excuse if they were to come out and fall flat in this one.

With that said, Notre Dame has a very good chance to shut out the Lobos in their 2019 home opener. The team will be ready, the crowd will be loud, and we have been given every indication that the coaching staff will treat this game like they would any other. If all of this is true, New Mexico will be in for it as they travel to South Bend this weekend.

While the Lobos will be doing the same, the Irish are coming off a bye week that has granted them more than enough time to prepare for a team that went 1-7 in Mountain West play a year ago. Nevertheless, shutting out a college football team is never easy, regardless of the opposing team’s level of play.

The explanation for this is pretty simple. With 60 minutes of football played each game, you pretty much need a mistake free game (at least defensively) to prevent your opponent from putting up as little as a field goal. After struggling at times against Louisville, a near-perfect game would be just what the doctor ordered before the Irish roll into town to take on Georgia.
