Washington State football is gearing up for its toughest battle of the season so far, traveling down to Texas to take on a tough Houston team.

Mike Leach has done one heck of a job with this Washington State football program. The Cougars were in a bad place when he took over and now they’re ranked almost every season with an elite passer under center.

Everyone assumed the Cougars would take a step back before last season and then Leach found Gardner Minshew who delivered as one of the top passers in college football. And then he moved on to the NFL, leaving the position vacant, but the quarterback whisperer found Anthony Gordon who has two 400-yard passing games to start the year.

Washington State travels to Houston on Friday night looking to improve to 3-0, but it won’t be easy so let’s talk bold predictions.

3. D’Eriq King totals 350 total yards

We haven’t quite seen the best of D’Eriq King just yet. He has just 306 passing yards and three touchdowns through two games and he’s thrown an interception and has been sacked seven times. No, this isn’t the King we expected.

But we’ll see more of the Heisman dark-horse King who everyone was prepared for at the start of the season on Friday night against Washington State.

King has just 408 total yards and six touchdowns this season, but he’ll nearly match that with 350 total yards and four scores against Washington State. He’ll throw three touchdown passes with 270 yards and rush for at least 80 more with another score.

Washington State’s defense is no pushover, but it’s going to have a tough time slowing down King on Friday at NRG Stadium.
