After losing to Colorado State a year ago in demoralizing fashion, the Arkansas football got its revenge. What did we learn in this one?

The Razorbacks handed the ball to Nick Starkel to start at quarterback this one and it paid off as Arkansas was able to put up 55 points by the time the whole thing was said and done. He was 20-for-35 for 305 yards and 3 touchdowns throughout the matchup. It would seem that choosing him over Ben Hicks this week was the right decision for sure. He will get one more tune-up against San Jose State next week before SEC play opens against his old team- Texas A&M.

The Arkansas run game was strong as well, though they were fighting against a Colorado State defense that is less than stellar against the run. They finished with 215 total yards on the ground and three touchdowns. Rakeem Boyd led the way with 122 yards and two touchdowns. He was also a Texas A&M transfer who found himself on Last Chance U before finding a home at Arkansas, where he has excelled since. Devwah Whaley had 81 yards and a touchdown of his own in the win over Colorado State.

What was concerning though, was the Arkansas defense. Yes, the had two turnovers to their name and that is always a good thing, but they also gave up 34 points to Colorado State. They allowed 220 yards on the ground and 205 through the air. That isn’t going to fly against SEC opponents, which has already been seen as they struggled against Ole Miss a week ago.

At this point, I see maybe two more sure wins on their schedule and that is San Jose State and Western Kentucky. If their defense doesn’t improve, this season could get just as ugly as it was a year ago when they only won two games out of the 12.

I’m not sure how much better 4-8 is compared to 2-10, but that is about what the season is looking like if this team can’t get their defense right. For the sake of the Razorback faithful, I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see the Razorbacks putting together a conference win this season.
