Kansas State Football: 3 takeaways from upset at Mississippi State
1. Garrett Shrader replaced Tommy Stevens
Tommy Stevens got hurt in the second quarter of last week’s game against Southern Miss. It was a shoulder injury, and he was not able to return to the game last week. Stevens decided to give it a shot today and gut it out, although he was not himself. He did throw a long touchdown, but it was clear his shoulder was bothering him as he missed several throws and had two interceptions.
Mississippi State put in true freshman Garrett Shrader who did some good things and displayed a lot of toughness. However, there were also times where he played like a freshman, which is to be expected. He has a lot of talent and has a change to be a great quarterback at Mississippi State, but the Bulldogs are hoping Tommy Stevens is healthy for their next game as he gives them the best chance to win.
Shrader was 4-for-12 for 51 yards passing, but showed some good things on the ground running as he rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown. Shrader had the Bulldogs in a position to win the game as they were up in the second half, but couldn’t hang on to the lead.
