1. Ainias Smith emerged as strong target

Yes, I could have used my last takeaway to talk defense because that unit played really well for the Aggies. They held Lamar to 3 points, keeping the Cardinals off-balance all night.

But, I expected that.

I expected them to play well. I expected the unit to look like they have been there and done that before. What I didn’t expect was true freshman Ainias Smith to ball out the way that he did. This kid deserved some respect and acknowledgment for what he put together and this is exactly that.

Many questioned the Aggies even signing Smith in this past signing class, sighting the lack of need at the position. However, I am sure that many of them changed their tune after this game. He shined and showed exactly why he deserved a spot on this roster when it came down to it.

Smith had 6 catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. No, he wasn’t a 100-yard receiver, but he took over the second half. It was as if he was the only receiver on the field for the Aggies. Look for Smith to make a move into the starting rotation after play like that.
