Utah Football: Tyler Huntley’s gradual improvement bad news for Pac-12
Another week, another improvement from the passing game of Utah football and Tyler Huntley. His progress is bad news for the Pac-12.
If you were too shy to pull the trigger on joining the Tyler Huntley bandwagon earlier in the season after a rust-filled Week 1 performance against BYU, you missed out.
After another sparkling performance against Idaho State, Huntley looks like the quarterback that was giving defenses nightmares before his injury a season ago. He had no trouble moving the ball down the field against Idaho State and made little to no mistakes all day long.
Sure, it was just Idaho State, but this is the third straight game to start the year that resulted in four incompletions or less from Huntley.
In fact, Huntley was 13-for-16 in a win over BYU, then 14-of-19 against Northern Illinois and finally 15-of-19 against Idaho State. He has improved his completion accuracy each week and it hovers around 75 percent on the season. Not only that, but his production has also improved tremendously.
In Week 1, he had 106 yards and no touchdowns on 6.6 yards per attempt and that number improved to 214 yards and a touchdown on 11.3 yards per attempt against Northern Illinois.
As if that improvement wasn’t enough, he put up a season-high 282 yards and three touchdowns in Week 3. He may not have used his legs as much in Week 3, but he didn’t need to. The Utes dominated the Bengals all afternoon long to the tune of a 30-0 blowout.
Watch out, Pac-12, Huntley is finally shaking off that rust and he looks like he’s playing the best football of his career. His numbers may look even gaudier if he attempted more than 20 passes in a game.
