Florida State lost a close game with Virginia football on Saturday night. What did we learn from the Cavaliers’ comeback victory?

The Seminoles and Cavaliers played a fantastic game on Saturday night. Virginia took home the victory, but for a Seminole team that has been so down in recent years, this was a very positive performance. There were certainly problems, on both sides, but this was an exciting game for two programs looking to improve.

3. Too many mistakes

On far too many occasions, the Seminoles were making mistakes that gave Virginia new life. Several times down the stretch on Saturday, Florida State gave away yards in key situations. On the night, Taggart’s team had 10 penalties for 83 yards.

Bronco Mendenhall’s team did his best to not be outdone.

In the final minute, Virginia committed a pass interference on fourth down. On an ensuing fourth down, the Cavaliers were flagged for a late hit on the quarterback. They gave the Seminoles multiple first downs during the fourth quarter of this game.

Perhaps the biggest mistake of all though, came as time expired. The Seminoles gained a first down and had four seconds left on the clock. There was more than enough time to spike it and call a final play. Instead, the offense rushed a direct snap to Cam Akers that proved unsuccessful.
