Washington State Football: Anthony Gordon taking nation by storm
Mike Leach is known for developing quarterbacks and he has yet another one for Washington State football in Anthony Gordon.
There’s a new sheriff in Pullman and his name is Anthony Gordon. The fifth-year senior was a dark-horse to win the starting quarterback job this fall, but he beat out Eastern Washington transfer Gage Gubrud.
There was uncertainty surrounding him at quarterback. Would he be nearly as good as his predecessors? Gardner Minshew would be a helluva tough passer to replace.
Through three games, it seems as if he’s met expectations and even surpassed them. He’s averaging over 400 yards per game through the air, looks comfortable in the pocket and all of his throws seem to be right on the money.
Minshew had the same type of effect on the offense and took the nation by storm a year ago — mainly because of that sick mustache — but Gordon is doing the same this season.
It’s a shame he’s in his final year of eligibility.
Gordon was an unranked recruit in the 2015 class and went the JUCO route. He transferred to Washington State and Mike Leach has already worked wonders with the first-year starter.
After putting up 440 yards on Houston in a 31-24 win, Gordon can be looked at as one of the elite passers in all of college football. And like his first two starts, he was accurate and made minimal mistakes. He finished 36-of-48 and had three touchdowns with only one pick.
Through three games, he has over 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns with two interceptions and a completion rate hovering around 80 percent.
This kid is taking college football by storm.
And reign is just getting started, folks. He hasn’t even faced the secondaries in the Pac-12 yet, so his numbers could inflate even more in the coming weeks. Could we be looking at a 5,000-yard passer in Pullman?
