The third week of college football is in the books, and there were some surprising outcomes. Who were Week 3’s studs, duds and thuds?

The college football landscape is slowly starting to be filled in as the games are being played, and we learned a lot in Week 3. Even though there were no games against ranked opponents, many ranked teams went down. No teams with College Football Playoff hopes lost, but a couple of top teams struggled through wins. Florida lost their quarterback Feleipe Franks for the season, but they still won their game against Kentucky in a nail-biter.

The two best teams in the country both won their games by large margins, but they did not look great in doing so. Alabama’s defense has some weaknesses, and the game against South Carolina exposed them. Clemson’s still one of the best teams in college football, but Trevor Lawrence struggled in his third straight game of the season. If we want another round of Alabama-Clemson, both teams will have to improve.

Some teams looked bad in losses. Michigan State lost to Arizona State for the second straight season. In this one, the offense never got going. Even when they marched down the field and made a field goal to potentially force overtime, they got a penalty for too many men on the field. When they tried again, they failed to score.

Another team that struggled with offense was Maryland. They had the best offense in the country over two weeks, but they simply couldn’t get anything working against Temple. In losses like that, you have to wonder if Maryland’s offense is for real. We’ll have to wait before we get that answer.

So, who were the studs from this week? Were there any duds? How about the thuds? All these questions will be answered right here.
