3. Offensive line is one of the worst in the conference

Penn State survived this game and finish undefeated in non-conference play. After a bye week, conference play starts as the Lions make the trip to Maryland. There are some signs of a trouble on the horizon for Penn State.

The Lions offensive line is one of the biggest problems right now. In the first half, Pitt was swarming all over Sean Clifford. The Panthers recorded three sacks and even when they did not bring down Clifford, they were harassing him. Getting hammered all afternoon led to Clifford’s worst game so far, completing less than half of his passes and no touchdowns.

The offensive line has been an issue for several seasons now for Penn State. They are recruiting well at the position. Is it scheme or coaching? Many in Nittany Nation thought offensive line coach Matt Limegrover should have been shown the door this off-season, but Franklin retained him. So far Limegrover is not earning his keep.

The Lions need to clean up the problems as they enter Big Ten play. The better defenses in the conference will eat this offensive line alive and Clifford will be getting hammered.
