The Skinny

It’s impossible to deny any more that UCF is at the top of the Group-of-Five pecking order. Freshman quarterback Dillon Gabriel is quickly emerging as a star, and UCF beat the brakes off of Stanford in Orlando. UCF put up 28 points in the first quarter against the Cardinal, earning yet another win over a Power Five program.

The Knights will get another chance next week as they travel to Pittsburgh, and with games still remaining against Cincinnati, Temple, Houston, Tulane, and a potential AAC Championship matchup with Memphis, UCF has the opportunity to put together quite the resume. A few upsets could give the Knights a legitimate shot at breaking into the College Football Playoff.

Ohio State is still the toughest team for me to leave out of the College Football Playoff field. The Buckeyes have made major strides defensively in 2019, boasting one of the most dominant players in college football in edge rusher Chase Young. Justin Fields is getting better every week, and Ohio State has one of the most well-rounded teams in the country.

There’s still some landmines on the schedule with road trips to Nebraska, Northwestern and Michigan as well as tricky home games against Wisconsin, Michigan State and Penn State.
