Notre Dame football took care of business against New Mexico in Week 3 so let’s completely overreact to the Fighting Irish blowout.

Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish are heading into a major showdown with Georgia in Week 4 with a 2-0 record and it looks like they’re firing on all cylinders after a 66-14 blowout of New Mexico.

Notre Dame had its way with the Lobos in South Bend and even flashed some of the young guns in garbage time who made some names for themselves.

So let’s completely overreact to the Fighting Irish win.

3. Notre Dame will still be elite with Phil Jurkovec

Ian Book is in his final season as the quarterback of Notre Dame and he helps the offense hum along, but there’s been concern about the future without him.

But Phil Jurkovec got some action at the end of regulation with the Fighting Irish up by so much and his only pass happened to be a 52-yard completion. He showed poise on his only throw and placed the long-ball perfectly in Braden Lenzy’s arms. He hit him in stride and it was one of those tosses that really opens eyes.

While losing Book next year will be tough, Jurkovec showed that he can throw the deep-ball well and even showed off his legs with three rushes for 17 yards.

We didn’t see a ton from Jurkovec, but the talented young quarterback has a bright future ahead of him. Will Notre Dame continue to be elite without Book? It’s hard to say, but there were definitely overreactions to Jurkovec’s lone throw.
