Texas A&M Football: 3 overreactions to blowout win over Lamar
By Shelbie Warr
2. It’s time to let the young guns have their chance
I’ll start this slide with the young gun that really got his chance against Lamar, Isaiah Spiller. He didn’t start the game, that honor goes to Jacob Kibodi, the redshirt sophomore.
However, he did make a lasting statement on the Aggie faithful who were worried when running back Jashaun Corbin went down that they wouldn’t be able to establish the running game the way things were planned. Spiller had 14 carries for 116 yards and two touchdowns in his real debut as the Aggie RB1.
What I’m most worried about, though, is some of the Aggie wide receivers. I know full well that the guys that are starting now have the talent and the abilities to be starters in the SEC and to make big-time plays that are necessary throughout the year. However, these last two weeks have seen quite a bit of dropped passes throughout the year.
I’m not going to name names or single anyone out, my only point is that it may be time to give guys like Jalen Preston, Caleb Chapman and Ainias Smith their turn to shine, their chance to prove they could be a top wideout on this team.
