4. Stanford is officially down

In the last two seasons, the Stanford Cardinal hasn’t quite been the dominant, physical force of previous seasons. Still, David Shaw’s team was winning nine games in back to back years. Something was missing, and some thought that maybe Stanford was down, but you couldn’t say it for sure.

Now, in 2019, you can. The Cardinal sit at 1-2, and those losses haven’t been pretty. They lost by 25 to a USC team that just fell to BYU, and on Saturday, were manhandled by UCF.

On that note, the win wasn’t pretty either. At home, the Cardinal could only manage a 17-7 slog over Northwestern.

Things don’t get easier this week. Shaw’s team plays host to the 16th ranked Oregon Ducks. Two weeks later, it’s a date with Washington. November features a road trip to Washington State, and home matchups with Cal’s elite defense, and the top ten Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Considering what we’ve seen this year, 7-5 is absolutely in the cards for Stanford’s 2019 season.
