Boise State Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Air Force in Week 4
By Dante Pryor
2. Hank Bachmeier plays like a freshman
Boise State true freshman quarterback Hank Bachmeier has to play like a freshman sometime, right? His numbers haven’t exactly set the world on fire, but he’s like that old car that keeps running; he has it where it counts. If you’ve seen him play against Florida State or Marshall, you know he has ice water in his veins.
Bachmeier has played as well as you can in key moments this season, but he has to come down to earth at some point. The Broncos have protected him with their play-calling. Boise State has 126 rush attempts and Bachmeier has thrown 110 passes — 51 of those attempts against Florida State. They’ve tried to be as balanced as possible.
However, Air Force might force Bachmeier into more passing situations. The Falcons could make the Broncos one-dimensional by shortening the game. Fewer possessions could mean fewer opportunities to score which puts more pressure on the Broncos to score.
Also, the Falcons limited the Colorado Buffaloes to 3.3 yards per rush. If they can take away the run game from Boise State, Bachmeier is apt to put the ball on the turf or throw it to the Falcons.
