Auburn Tigers: 3 keys to victory over Texas A&M in Week 4
2. Defensive front must play at the usual, elite level
Against Clemson, Kellen Mond went 24-of-42 (57 percent), and had 236 yards with a touchdown and an interception. On Saturday, when Auburn comes to College Station, it’s going to feel like deja-vu.
That is because when it comes to defensive lines, Auburn’s Tigers are just good as Clemson’s.
Kevin Steele’s defensive line has a wealth of talent, and the depth is what makes them especially great. As the game plays out, the Tigers have a rotation of linemen that can contribute. On Saturday, Kellen Mond will have to evade fresh rushers for 60 minutes.
To give you an idea of how good this unit is, both Nick Coe and Derrick Brown have yet to register a sack. This team is getting to the quarterback, it’s by no means a sign of underperforming players. Instead, through three games, this unit has been so good that Brown and Coe haven’t had to carry it.
This is one of the best defensive lines in the nation. On Saturday, they’ll need to play that way if they want to bring home a victory.
