In what may be a battle of wills, Cal faces off with Ole Miss football looking to stay ranked. Here is everything you need to know about the matchup.

Cal sits at 3-0 on the season with a big win over Washington boosting them up. They have found their way into the rankings and are looking for another win to keep them there.

On the other side, Ole Miss seems like they are figuring things out after an opening loss to Memphis. The offense is at the very least looking better and less clueless.

Keys to Victory

For Cal, it starts on defense. They have to keep Matt Corral and an Ole Miss offense that I am still not convinced of on their toes. They can’t give up those big plays, especially in the run game. They have to make Ole Miss win this game with their defense, something that I am not sure the Rebels are all that capable of.

For Ole Miss, they have to fight against a Cal secondary that has been airtight. They will have to take care of the football and find some way somehow to establish the run game that keeps this offense going. They also need to exploit what Cal isn’t good at — third-down conversions and passing. Make Cal pass the ball, take away the option to run.

Prediction

This one is going to be like Ole Miss’ matchup with Memphis in that the amount of offense will be slim to none. It’s going to come down to who can make it happen and who can’t. The Cal defense will step up and force Ole Miss turnovers, keeping their team in the rankings for at least another week.
