Texas A&M football opens SEC play at home with No. 8 Auburn. There is a lot riding on this one for both teams. What are the keys to victory?
In the last two seasons, Texas A&M has struggled against Auburn teams that overall weren’t that great in the grand scheme of things. Now, they face off again in a game that really is a season definer for both teams. The loser can consider themselves basically out of the SEC West race while the other is very much still in the thick of things with the Tide and LSU.
So, long story short, this is an important game for the Aggies.
What does Texas A&M football have to do to win its SEC opener?
3. Missed opportunities will not fly in this one
This one is likely the most important of anything I will say today and it is something that has doomed this team, especially in the last two weeks — missed opportunities. We have seen it in every game this season, especially the last two — dropped passes and missed assignments.
I am not saying that had they cashed in on all of the opportunities they had in Week 2 that they would have upset Clemson because that isn’t guaranteed. However, there would have at least been a couple of touchdowns more on the board and that could be a game-changer when you lost 24-10.
Simply put, the Aggies have to cash in. It starts when they get down to the red zone. Field goals won’t cut it to win a game like this. There can’t be all of the dropped passes that have become an Aggie custom as of late. The overthrows and underthrows, which we will discuss more in a minute when we discuss Kellen Mond, can’t happen.
This team has to cash in on the opportunities provided to them.
