Auburn Football: 3 takeaways from big win over Texas A&M in Week 4
2. That was the old-school, Gus Malzahn rushing attack
Auburn goes on the road, pulls the upset over Texas A&M, and does it on the back of a dominant run game. That sound familiar, doesn’t it?
Saturday proved that, as all the offseason speculation suggested, this Tiger team has more of Malzahn’s prints on it than the squads of the last two years.
On the ground, the Tigers averaged 4.6 yards per carry and came just short of 200 total yards. JaTarvious Whitlow had 67 yards, and Bo Nix added 38. Anthony Schwartz added 57 yards. Shaun Shivers and Eli Stove contributed as well.
On Saturday, Nix, at least through the air, was again underwhelming. He has room to grow, but the way this offense is coming together, perhaps he can afford to.
The one thing that Nix did great through the air was avoid mistakes. If he keeps that part of his game up, and the running game keeps getting better, This offense can still thrive, even as the freshman improves as a passer.
