Texas A&M Football: 3 takeaways from disappointing loss to Auburn
By Shelbie Warr
Texas A&M football fell to Auburn on Saturday afternoon, 28-20, in a game that could define their season. What did we learn about the Aggies in this one?
The Aggies struggled with offensive consistency throughout the game, despite the one possession differential by the end of the game. We learned quite a bit about this team throughout this loss and let me tell you, there is a lot to be worried about for this team, but there are a few bright spots for sure.
What did we learn about the Aggies in this narrow, yet heartbreaking loss to the Auburn Tigers?
3. The running game needs a lot of help
Credit where credit is due for sure. Auburn did a great job of stifling the Aggie offense, especially the running game. However, they are the center of my first takeaway. With Jashuan Corbin hurt, Deneric Prince transferring and Vernon Jackson’s career likely over, the Aggies are all of the sudden left with a few questions and a thin running back line.
Isaiah Spiller is doing well enough, but for some reason, Jimbo Fisher won’t let him start. Jacob Kibodi shows flashes of good things, but it isn’t consistent enough. On top of all of that, for some reason, the Aggies are keeping Kellen Mond contained in the pocket and not letting him be the mobile quarterback he has been in the past.
Overall, when your quarterback ends up being your leading rusher and he only manages 26 yards on the ground, it isn’t a good sign for what is to come. The season doesn’t get any easier and if this unit doesn’t step up and start making plays against teams not named Texas State and Lamar, things could get nasty.
