UCF Football: 3 takeaways from disappointing loss to Pitt in Week 4
By Dante Pryor
2. Pitt’s defense will keep it in plenty of games
The Panther defense came to play. That may be crazy to say looking at the score, but considering they played a team that runs tempo, they played a good game.
The Panthers were able to get into the Knight backfield quite often and limit the Knights running game. The Panthers had six sacks, and limited the Knights to under 100 yards rushing at 2.5 yards per rush. Patrick Jones II and Jalen Twyman gave UCF fits all afternoon. The Panthers lost their two starting quarterbacks, but their pass rush was so good, the Knights couldn’t take advantage of the opportunities often enough to come away with the win.
What makes them comparable to the Spartans is simple; their offense isn’t complimentary to their defense. Both teams found a way to score points today ,but both teams can also go ice cold on offense. When you watch them play defense, you instantly match up their defense with teams that play offense well.
Also, you know their defenses will keep them in most every game they’ll play. The Panthers had six sacks today including two that ended the game.
