Washington football pulled away in the second half to run away with a big Week 4 win in Provo. Here are three things we learned from the Huskies’ win.

After USC went to Provo last weekend and fell at LaVell Edwards Stadium against BYU, there was a risk that Washington’s Week 4 road trip to face the Cougars could be something of a trap game. In the end, though, the Huskies left Utah with a relatively straightforward 45-19 victory.

Running up a 21-3 lead in the first quarter, Washington allowed their hosts to chip away slowly at the lead before halftime. All BYU could muster, though, was nine points off a touchdown with a failed extra-point try and a field goal that narrowed the gap to 24-12 at the half.

Once the intermission was over, Washington came out and asserted their presence as a Top 25 team. As the running game heated up and the defense stiffened, there was little that BYU could do to reclaim the momentum as they fell further and further behind on the scoreboard.

With the win, Washington moved to 3-1 in the standings and shored up their position in the polls for another week. What should we take away from the performance by Chris Petersen’s team? Here are three takeaways from the runaway rout on the road in Week 4 action.
