Arizona State Football: Loss to Colorado likely to ends Top 25 dreams
By Shelbie Warr
Arizona State football made it’s debut into the rankings after beating Michigan State in Week 3, but after a loss to Colorado, that ship may have sailed.
Herm Edwards has settled in at Arizona State and it seems to me that he is the perfect coach for that program. However, the Sun Devils aren’t going to be the big ballers of the football world anytime soon. If that is what Sparky wants, they aren’t going to be getting it with Edwards, that much is for sure.
Let’s start with Colorado. Steven Montez looked great under center, finishing 23-of-30 for 337 yards and three touchdowns. However, it almost wasn’t enough as Arizona State was able to march down the field a lot of the time and match what he was able to put up with their own. Tony Brown caught all three touchdowns for his quarterback, finishing with 150 yards receiving. So, give that young man a game ball.
Alex Fontenot added a rushing score, but it was the defense in the end that really put this one away, forcing the Sun Devils to turn the ball over on downs in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
For Arizona State, an early missed field goal came back to bite the Sun Devils as they fell by three to Colorado. Of course, I mean no offense to the kicker because it was far from a chip shot. A 48-yarder isn’t something you make every day, so no harm no foul.
Jayden Daniels was 24-of-39 with 345 yards and two touchdowns along with one interception. That interception interrupted a drive late in the third quarter, though, so it was a game-changer in this one. The Arizona State run game, led by Eno Benjamin, scored twice as well.
Neither defense played as well as they could have. However, it was the Colorado defense that stepped up big as time ticked away to notch a win for the Buffaloes. There were defensive stops on both sides, don’t get me wrong, but for each team to put up five touchdowns? Someone did something wrong.
