College Football Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 5 – Wisconsin rising
By Zach Bigalke
Washington State looks poised to remain tied with Cal atop the Pac-12 North, as they headed into the locker room at halftime with an 18-point lead on visiting UCLA in Pullman. The Cougars already piled up more than 400 yards by the intermission, ensuring that Mike Leach’s team will maintain position somewhere in the mid-to-high teens of the AP Top 25 for another week.
Through the first three weeks, no quarterback in the country threw for more yards or touchdowns than Anthony Gordon. The starter kept up the trend in the first half against the Bruins, breaking the 300-yard mark and matching his season high of five touchdown passes by halftime. His efforts were bolstered by Max Borghi, who ran a half-dozen times for 73 rushing yards.
Barring a massive second-half collapse, the Cougars will push up a few spots in the polls for next week’s trip to Salt Lake City to face Utah. The Cougars then get a bye week on the first weekend of October before taking another road trip to Tempe to face Arizona State. After climbing four full points in vote-shares entering Week 4, they are likely to make another short leap that should push them into the top 15 when the next AP Top 25 is released on Sunday.
