College Football Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 5 – Wisconsin rising
By Zach Bigalke
Through their first three weeks of the season, Oklahoma has played their way right back to the spot atop the Big 12 hierarchy that they have occupied for the past few years. Bolstered for a third straight season by a transfer quarterback, the Sooners have dominated their first three opponents by a combined 167-56 score.
Through three games Jalen Hurts leads the nation in passing efficiency, following in the footsteps of Heisman winners Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray as an ultra-efficient performer in Lincoln Riley’s offense. Hurts is also the sixth-best rusher in the country, and no player has been responsible for more points than the 13 touchdowns on the former Alabama quarterback’s 2019 stat line.
Yet Oklahoma slid one spot down the AP Top 25 in Week 3, and the Sooners have lost vote-shares each week since Week 1. They are in risk of dropping a spot again this week as they sit idle on the sidelines, though they will remain a top-six team ready to launch right back up the polls as they get into the heart of their Big 12 schedule.
