A wild week four in college football produced some major shifts in the bowl projections, although the playoff field remains steady.

It was a wild weekend in college football, and the bowl projections have seen some major shifts after four weeks of action.

The projected College Football Playoff field that I’ve had all season remains unchanged after some ho-hum matchups and a bye week. The New Year’s Six saw some shifts this week, though, with UCF’s stay being short lived this time around after a stunning loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon.

There were several other upsets across the nation, perhaps none more surprising than UCLA overcoming a 32-point second-half deficit to upset Washington State and earn its first win of the 2019 season, potentially building some much needed momentum for Chip Kelly in his second season in Westwood.

The three AP Top 25 matchups of the week didn’t provide as much drama as we hoped, though. Wisconsin blasted Michigan early in the afternoon behind a 200-plus yard performance from Jonathan Taylor and another dominant performance from its defense. Auburn had a two-score advantage for much of its game in College Station before hanging on to an eight-point win.

Georgia and Notre Dame provided more drama than anyone expected, with the Irish having the ball in Bulldogs territory late in the fourth quarter in a one-score game.

We still had plenty of excellent games, and big-time performances from a now crowded list of Heisman Trophy candidates. While the playoff field remains unchanged for another week, there were plenty of other changes throughout the rest of the bowl projections.

Let’s take a look at how things shake out after Week 4.
