D’Eriq King announced that he will redshirt the 2019 season and leave Houston. Why would he opt to go to Oklahoma football in 2020?
It fell like a brick on Monday afternoon after a wild Week 4 was in the books. Houston had already completed its week on Friday night when Tulane came back for a wild 38-31 win over the Cougars in New Orleans.
It turned out that Houston quarterback D’Eriq King did some soul-searching over the weekend and decided that he needed to do whatever was best for his long-term future in the sport. First reported by Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle, King opted to shut down his 2019 season and take the redshirt he never did at the beginning of his career.

It was low-hanging fruit, and at the same time it made too much sense. Soon after the initial announcement, King’s father confirmed that his son would look to move to another school as a graduate student in 2020.
