Utah Football: 3 overreactions from upset loss to USC in Week 4

Friday night was not the result Utah football expected when it traveled to Los Angeles to take on USC. Let’s overreact to Utah’s loss at the Coliseum.

Utah’s Pac-12 opener did not go as planned Friday night in Los Angeles. The USC Trojans came away with a hard-fought 30-23 win over the Utes.

Utah, playing from behind all game, made costly mistakes in crucial moments. It fumbled before halftime, squandering an opportunity to take a lead. The Trojans also blocked a field goal. What hurt most were the penalties. The mistakes they made either kept them behind the chains, killed drives, or help extend drives for the Trojans. Their undisciplined play was highly uncharacteristic for the Utes.

Backup quarterback Matt Fink, the unlikeliest of heroes, led the Trojans to victory . Sometimes the best decisions are the ones we don’t make. Fink decided to return to Los Angeles after considering going to Illinois as a graduate transfer. He threw for 351 yards and two touchdowns; a rewarded for his choice.
