In a limited Big 12 football schedule, Iowa State dominated UL-Monroe, and the TCU was trampled by SMU. Here are your power rankings for Week 5.

It was a fairly light week in the Big 12 with three teams idle and three teams playing non-conference opponents leaving just two league games — both games were really good.

Texas and Oklahoma State decided to play defense in the second half, and the Longhorns checked the Pokes off of their “hey, everyone, we’re back” list by defeating them 36-30 at DKR Stadium in Austin.

Two of the bottom three teams in these power rankings played a good hard-fought game that saw West Virginia beat the Kansas Jayhawks 29-24 in Lawrence.

The Iowa State Cyclones bounced back in a big way, hanging 72 on Louisiana-Monroe, and Baylor fooled around and almost lost to Rice. Florida State should take notes on how to pounce a team after a loss. The Cyclones played ornery all game long. If someone tells Rice about the new rule that the forward pass is legal, they might win some games this season.

In the battle of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro area, also known as the acronym war, best known as the Battle for the Iron Skillet, SMU upset TCU 41-38 in Fort Worth.

So, with all do respect to Barry Switzer and “hangin’ half-a-hundred on ’em”, here are your Big 12 power rankings:
