Defense
Let’s face it, the defense is not what it was even a year ago with Devin Bush, Chase Winovich, David Long and Rashan Gary leading the way.
Defensive Line: F
The Wolverines’ line was bullied for four quarters. They were pushed around by the Wisconsin offensive line all game long. They attacked the Badgers offensive line as if they didn’t watch any film or have a game plan for what Wisconsin wanted to do on offense. Jonathan Taylor was in the second level for most of the game. They had no backside pursuit for Wisconsin’s trap or counter run game. They looked inept.
Linebackers: D
The Wolverines’ linebackers could pass because they gave effort for a half at least. They got tired of being blocked by Wisconsin’s offensive line because Michigan’s defensive line couldn’t keep them clean. The linebackers were out of position all game. This was evident as they gave up four runs of over 20 yards.
Secondary: C
The secondary was decent only because the Badgers only threw 16 passes all game. The Wolverine defensive backs wanted no part of tackling Jonathan Taylor. Despite the fact the Badgers only threw 16 passes, they gave up 13 completions and had only two pass breakups.
Special Teams: C+
The special teams gets the highest grade here. Will Hart had a good day punting averaging 51 yards per punt. They didn’t give up any special teams scores on either kicks or punts, so there’s on place the Badgers didn’t out play them.
