Many Michigan football fans are wondering if Jim Harbaugh will make it through the year and Urban Meyer is a name that’s come up. No chance, he says.

For Ohio State fans, not all heroes wear capes.

Urban Meyer is a prime example of that after he made an appearance on 97.1 The Fan’s Carpenter and Rothman show on Wednesday.

The former Buckeye coach was asked what his interest level would be if he were to be offered the Michigan job, assuming Jim Harbaugh was let go. His answer shot down any hope certain Michigan fans had in him coming to Ann Arbor in one fell swoop.

“No, that’s not going to happen,” Meyer said after a long pause. “That’s… That’s not going to happen.”

Following Michigan’s blowout loss to Wisconsin over the weekend, the “fire Harbaugh” section of the fanbase not only grew in number but was as loud as ever. The former Michigan quarterback turned coach seemingly wore out his welcome with four quarters of disastrous football which led to a 35-14 loss on a national stage.

Murmurs of “he can’t win the big game” and “he’s a fraud” surfaced as fans scrambled to figure out, “Who’s next?”

Vegas even released some odds for the next coach and Meyer appeared. Some fans held on to hope that maybe Meyer would put his Michigan hatred aside to lead the program back to relevance and maybe even a national title. Social media was buzzing with a select number of Michigan fans (not all, mind you) who wanted to see Meyer get a shot.

That’s how desperate Michigan fans are right now. That would be like if Lloyd Carr had retired and then decided to un-retire a couple of years later to coach at Ohio State. There would be Michigan fans out with pitchforks and torches.

But Meyer won’t do that to the Ohio State faithful. Right now, there’s an overwhelming sense that he’ll be in Los Angeles for his next coaching job, leading the USC Trojans.

Ohio State fans have to be happy that it won’t be Michigan, though. Sorry, Wolverine fans.
