. Auburn Tigers. player. 842. . (4-0). vs. Mississippi State. 4

Auburn and Mississippi are both coming off conference wins and will now face each other Saturday night. The Tigers are 10.5-point favorites.

Delving a little deeper into statistics, one would not get the impression Auburn is undefeated. The Tigers are a highly penalized team, are only averaging 164 passing yards per game, and have trouble generating turnovers. But as usual, the only numbers that matter are the two that make up a team’s win-loss record and right now Auburn is perfect. They even have two quality road victories in Oregon and Texas A&M, even though the defeat of the Ducks was on a neutral field.

Mississippi State is 3-1, with their lone loss coming at home against Kansas State. Quarterback Tommy Stevens has been out injured since the second half of the game against the Wildcats. Garrett Shrader was admirable in last week’s win against Kentucky, completing nearly 80 percent of his passes for 180 yards. No touchdowns, but he added 125 yards on the ground. A decision will be made closer to game time if Stevens will be ready to start against Auburn.

With neither offense being high octane, this looks to be a low scoring, tight ball game. Which ever team can sustain drives the longest and lead in time of possession is likely to pull it off. It should be closer than the point spread indicates and the Bulldogs have enough to pull the upset.
