We are entering Week 5, and there have been quite the shake up around the Group of Five as we continue to see who receives a New Year’s Six bid.

It’s American Athletic heavy New Year’s Six watch again this week; we lost the Temple Owls after their 38-22 loss to Buffalo, and we gained a team when SMU defeated TCU in the Battle for the Iron Skillet.

As of the writing of these New Year’s Six watch rankings, the only Group of Five team in the AP and Coaches polls is UCF.

There were some fringe teams considered for the watch, alas they didn’t qualify for several reasons. The Green Wave and the ugliest logo in college football was considered, but their quarterback can’t throw so they’ll lose against a team that can play defense for four quarters.

Army almost qualified for the watch — get it Knight’s watch — but they simply don’t have the schedule even if they run the table the rest of the way. Who can trust Hawaii’s defense? However, next up for consideration for the watch: The Tar Heel defeating Appalachian State Mountaineers. Look out watch members, the boys from Boone are looking to take your spot.

Here’s who are on the NY6 watch coming into Week 5.
