Oklahoma football enters Big 12 play with a home matchup against Texas Tech. Can the Sooners keep the momentum rolling against the Red Raiders?

After an easy 3-0 start, Oklahoma will now start its Big 12 slate with Texas Tech. The Sooners are big favorites, once again, but when you enter conference play, the threat level tends to rise a bit.

To give you an idea of just how wild this series has been in recent years, a few of this game’s recent final scores: 51-46, 66-59, 38-30, 63-27 and 49-27. This matchup has had produced some amazing games since the turn of the decade, but even in cases where the Sooners have pulled away, it’s been a blast to watch the offenses.

Despite some of those great contests, the Sooners haven’t lost to Texas Tech since 2011. In Norman, Lincoln Riley’s team will look to add another win to this streak.

Here’s how you can watch:

Date: Saturday, Sept. 28
Time: 12 p.m. ET
Location: Norman, Okla.
Venue: Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium

Keys to Victory

Well, if history is an indicator, you have to score a lot of points to win this game. For the Sooners, that shouldn’t be an issue. Jalen Hurts has gotten off to a blazing start, and he’s shown no signs of slowing down. Of course, that should be the case with a supporting cast that features CeeDee Lamb, Charleston Rambo, Trey Sermon and countless others that can make big plays.

On the Red Raider side, it will be a little more difficult. Quarterback Alan Bowman is out with a shoulder injury, so Jeff Duffey and Jackson Tyner will likely share the steering wheel of the offense on Saturday.

Red Raider running backs Armand Shyne, Ta’zhawn Henry and Sarodorick Thompson will likely see an increased workload. Shyne is averaging 7.4 yards per carry, while Henry and Thompson are both averaging in the 4.0-range.

Prediction

If Bowman were suiting up Saturday, the Red Raiders would have a far better shot at pulling the upset, or at least making this a competitive game. Will Tech score points? Absolutely. Will they score enough to hang with Oklahoma? Not close.
