3. Contain Matt Fink
I wasn’t the only one who thought USC president Carol Folt was going to meet Clay Helton with his pink slip before he escorted his team in the locker room after Kedon Slovis went down early in the Utah game.
There was no way the third-string quarterback Matt Fink could do anything against the Utah defense, right. After all, this might be the best defensive unit Kyle Whittingham as ever had. It’s so good, Whittingham himself said, that all 11 starters will play in the NFL some day.
Well, we were all wrong. Fink came in cool, calm and collected and proceeded to throw a touchdown on his first possession behind center. His night ended with a 351-yard, three-touchdown performance. He did give the Huskies something that Utah didn’t have; they have tape on Fink. It will be interesting how they defend him and the air-raid in this game.
What they don’t want is a repeat of last Friday night in Los Angeles. Husky defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake will have his secondary prepared so it doesn’t happen.
