Duke football crushed Virginia Tech in all phases of the game on the road in Blacksburg. What did we learn from Duke’s dominant display on Friday?

847. Final. 45. 825. 10

In a key Friday showdown in the ACC Coastal, there was only one team that seemed awake for the contest under the lights. Duke headed on the road to Blacksburg, and they headed back to Durham with a 45-10 win in their first conference game of the 2019 season.

David Cutcliffe’s crew piled up 422 yards of offense on Bud Foster’s defense, taking the air out of the home crowd before halftime after falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter. The Hokies had no answers for the Blue Devils either through the air or on the ground, as they dropped their second ACC game of the year.

Justin Fuente now finds his Hokies down 0-2 in conference play, putting them two full games behind state rival Virginia in the division standings. Getting back to the ACC championship game looks like a pipe dream for Virginia Tech after coming out flat in Week 5.

What else did we learn from Duke’s domination of their division foes on Friday? Keep reading to see the three things we learned from the lopsided result that favored the Blue Devils.
