3. Matt Fink looks like a more than capable option

Quarterback JT Daniels appeared to be in position to take a step forward in 2019 after an up and down campaign as a true freshman, but a torn ACL has sent those hopes to a screeching halt. Freshman Kedon Slovis was the next man up for the Trojans, but decision making typical of a freshman began to manifest in the form of interceptions, eventually doing USC in against BYU.

However, Slovis’s time as USC’s starting quarterback has been put on hold for the time being as the former three-star product has been exhibiting concussion-like symptoms after exiting early against Utah. Only four games into the young season, the Trojans find themselves down to their third-string quarterback.

While not necessarily ideal, you could do a lot worse than Matt Fink when it comes to a third-string quarterback. Many teams would likely be throwing out a very young option (USC is a bit backwards in regard to how their quarterbacks’ experience translates to their place on the depth chart), but the Trojans have the luxury of sending out a junior in Fink.

While his time on the field has been limited, Fink has had countless hours to take in the playbook and prepare for a moment like this. As unlikely as it may have seemed heading into the season, that time has come. Fink rose to the challenge against Utah, throwing for 351 yards and three touchdowns to one interception. Don’t be surprised if we see a similar outing against Washington.
