BYU suffered a heartbreaking finish at Toledo as the Cougars fell at the Glass Bowl. What can the Cougars take away from this road defeat in Week 5?

BYU had high hopes of getting back over .500 as they traveled to Toledo to take on the Rockets. But the Glass Bowl has a history of being a house of horrors for visiting opponents, and this week proved no exception. The Cougars head back to Provo after dropping a heartbreaker in the final minute.

Throughout the game, the two teams traded scores. It looked like the contest was going to head to overtime, but a late interception by Zach Wilson allowed Toledo to get into scoring range for the game-winning touchdown. Unable to do anything in the last handful of seconds at their disposal, BYU was unable to find one final score to send the game to extra time.

Kalani Sitake’s crew now sits with three losses in a season where they hoped for so much more. There is still plenty of time left in the season, but the margin of error for the Cougars is rapidly dwindling. And there could be even more losses down the road if injuries incurred in this contest linger for any length of time.

The season isn’t torpedoed completely for BYU, but Week 5 proved to be a major setback. What can we take away from this deflating defeat on the road? Here are three things we learned about the Cougars in the tight loss against their MAC opponent on Saturday.
