1. The BYU defense left something to be desired in Toledo

While the BYU offense struggled to move the football on the ground, there was no such problem when Toledo had the football. The Cougars gave up 242 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground to the Rockets, which controlled the clock for nearly 35 minutes. Things weren’t much better when Toledo opted to pass the ball.

Mitchell Guadagni threw for 206 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, as he completed 17 of his 28 passing attempts against the Cougars. Guadagni also ran 12 times for 54 yards, shaking off pressure and making sure Toledo kept moving the chains in front of the home crowd.

Shakif Seymour led the way among running backs, racking up 96 yards and a touchdown on his 19 carries. Seymour added an 18-yard touchdown catch to account for half of Toledo’s touchdowns against the Cougars. Backfield mate Bryant Koback also scored a touchdown as he ran 23 times for 88 yards in the victory.

If BYU is going to right the ship after their bye week at the beginning of October, they must do a better job of stopping teams on the ground. The Cougars cannot win if the other team has the ball for long stretches, and it will be imperative to reverse their recent fortunes in that regard.
