Oklahoma State football hosted No. 24 Kansas State on Saturday evening and came away with an impressive win. What’d we learn?

Kansas State came to town on Saturday night but Oklahoma State was just far too strong for the Wildcats. The Cowboys dominated on the defensive side of the ball and did enough on offense, behind the legs of Chuba Hubbard, to pick up a big win.

A win over the No. 24 team in college football should be enough to crack the AP Top 25 for Week 6, but the Cowboys will learn that fate on Sunday afternoon.

What’d we learn from the Cowboys’ win over Kansas State?

3. Defense is improving

When you think of Oklahoma State football, defense isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind. Heck, it might not even be the second or third thing that comes to mind, but that side of the ball held its own against the improved Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday night.

Skylar Thompson couldn’t get anything going through the air, completing 11-of-23 passes for 118 yards and no touchdowns. On top of that, the run game didn’t exactly go off, accounting for 126 yards on 32 carries.

Overall, Oklahoma State’s defense was on point during a game where the offense was basically a two-headed monster. The Cowboys were moving the ball but didn’t find the end zone as much as they would have liked.

If the defense can continue to improve, the Cowboys could be in the Big 12 title race until the final week.
