Texas A&M Football: 3 takeaways from slim victory over Arkansas
1. The Aggies held off Arkansas despite miscues
The Aggies came into this game as more than a three-touchdown favorite. At the start of the game, it looked like they might cover as they jumped out to a 14-3 lead. They intercepted Nick Starkel in the second quarter and it felt like The Aggies were going to drive the field and score and put the game out of reach.
However, the Aggies had several miscues through out the game, but were able to overcome them and hang on to the lead to avoid the upset.
The Aggies had several turnovers and all of them were costly. In the second quarter, Texas A&M fumbled the ball and the Razorbacks scooped it up for a touchdown. That was right after the Aggies forced a turnover as well. Later the second quarter, there was a roughing the passer penalty that kept the Arkansas drive alive that ended up with the Razorbacks scoring.
In the second half, the Aggies were driving looking to solidify a lead when Kellen Mond through a pick into the end-zone. The Aggies were basically guaranteed at least three points if they didn’t turn the ball over. However, The Aggies hung on and were able to win. Good teams find ways to win even when they don’t play the best.
The Razorbacks drop another conference game and will go back to the drawing board while the Aggies hope to learn from this tough win and gain some momentum for the rest of the season.
