The bowl projections had a big change this week as Ohio State enters the projected College Football Playoff field after another dominant victory.

We have some major changes in this week’s bowl projections, chief among them being Ohio State football leaping into the projected playoff field after their fifth straight dominant win to open the season and the Ryan Day era in Columbus.

We almost had some even bigger changes this week as Clemson flirted with disaster in Chapel Hill. The Tigers avoided a full-on “Clemsoning” by stopping a late 2-point conversion attempt by North Carolina to preserve a 21-20 victory.

With Clemson’s weak schedule, Dabo Swinney’s crew can ill-afford a loss if it wants to have the opportunity to make the College Football Playoff for the fifth straight season.

These projections are extremely fluid. The Tigers looked like the safest bet to make the playoff field in the preseason, and while they still find themselves in at the moment, we saw how quickly things can change on any given Saturday. There might be another landmine or two out there that we aren’t expecting for the top contenders.

Just a few weeks ago Maryland was projected to play in the Citrus Bowl after a dominant win over Syracuse. Now, after last week’s blowout loss to Penn State, the path to bowl eligibility is currently too murky to even project the Terrapins to get the requisite six wins.

In my current projections, I have Liberty, Ohio, Northern Illinois, Nevada, and Coastal Carolina reaching six wins without a bowl invite. There just weren’t enough spots for secondary bowl agreements to get to those teams. But on the bright side, at least we aren’t having to look at APR scores yet.
