Arizona State football turned up the heat in a 24-17 win over the California Golden Bears. How did they look doing it and who graded the highest?
The Arizona State Sun Devils are one of the youngest teams in the country this season, but second-year head coach Herman Edwards has them believing in themselves.
True freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels has been protected by the play-calling — a good thing — and has done all that is being asked of him. Daniels, and his youthful offensive counterparts are the beneficiaries of an outstanding defense that plays aggressive and gets teams off the field on third downs.
All of these were present as Edwards returned to his alma mater this past weekend. For those who might not know Edwards was a standout defensive back for the Golden Bears and holds the single-game record for interceptions. The game was a battle between two of the better defensive squads in the Pac-12 until Cal starting quarterback Chase Garbers left the game with an injured throwing shoulder. The Bears had issues moving the ball for the rest of the night.
Eno Benjamin had 100 yards and three scores while Daniels added 258 total yards for the Sun Devils’ offense. The defense chipped in with three sacks and an interception on the night limiting the Cal offense to just 245 yards of total offense.
