Florida Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Auburn in Week 6
By David Harvey
2. Florida’s offense is shut down
The Florida Gators got a kink in their offensive chain when starting quarterback Felipe Franks was lost for the season in the Kentucky game. He went down with a gruesome ankle injury late in the third quarter that will require surgery and about six months of treatment to get him back on the field.
In Franks’ absence, Kyle Trask came into the game and brought the Gators back with the aforementioned 19 unanswered points. Since then, Trask has played extremely well against sub-par talent of Townson and a trainwreck of a Tennessee team. This will be his first major test against a true SEC defense.
The Florida running game has been non-existent even against lesser competition. As a team, they have a total of 707 rushing yards on the season. Lamical Perine is 19th in the SEC with only 197 yards through five games played.
Auburn’s rush defense is as stout as they come. They are ranked 20th in the country in run defense. Derrick Brown and Tyron Truesdale are one of the best defensive tackle duos in the country. Not only are they run stoppers but they’ve also combined for five sacks on the season to date.
I don’t see Florida moving the ball very well at all against the front-seven of Auburn. Trask won’t have time to throw the ball and Perine will have no lanes to run through. The Florida offense won’t exceed 300 total yards of offense.
