3. Defend the pass

Tulsa is a good throwing team with quarterback Zach Smith at the helm. They always look to control the clock and have eaten up a ton of time of possession on the ground, but this has opened up huge plays for the Golden Hurricane passing game.

On the other side, SMU struggles to defend the pass and has given up over 240 yards per game in the air. They will have to try and make the Golden Hurricane one dimensional to avoid a shootout in Dallas.

With how well the Mustangs have been playing and scoring at will, this has had the SMU defense on the field for a long period of time. If this game starts getting out of hand for Tulsa, they are going to try and go up top to create some type of offense to bring it within striking distance. SMU will have to have a good game-plan ready for Tulsa’s senior quarterback.

Look for a ton of zone defense for the Mustangs and loading the box trying to get Tulsa into obvious throwing situations. This could be a golden opportunity for the Mustangs to grab a couple of interceptions in front of their home crowd.
