UCF Football: 5 bold predictions for Knights in October 2019
By Zach Bigalke
UCF football heads into the month of October with a loss for the first time in three years. What big things might be in store for UCF in the upcoming month?
UCF had a wild September in 2019. The season actually began the season on Aug. 29 against legendary HBCU program Florida A&M, when the Knights shut out the Rattlers 62-0 and the world got their first glimpse of freshman quarterback Dillon Gabriel after an offseason when it looked like Notre Dame graduate transfer Brandon Wimbush was set to play a caretaker role for the offense this season.
A road trip to Boca Raton ended in a 48-14 blowout of Florida Atlantic. Then the Knights earned themselves a statement victory in a 48-27 takedown of Pac-12 pretender Stanford. Though the Cardinal are nowhere near as good as they have been in recent seasons, it was nevertheless a quality win over a Power Five opponent.
Riding a 27-game winning streak, the Owls went to Pittsburgh and ran into a major disappointment as the Panthers pulled off a late 35-34 upset. There were still some bright spots to be taken away from that battle, but ultimately the streak died and with it went any chance at forcing their way into the College Football Playoff.
With a bounce-back rout of UConn in Week 5, the Knights head into the month of October sitting at 4-1 in the standings. It is an odd situation for a team that hasn’t suffered a September defeat since 2016, but UCF is still very much alive in the battle for a third straight New Year’s Six berth.
