UCF Football: 5 bold predictions for Knights in October 2019
By Zach Bigalke
1. UCF will vault up to top three in the FBS in scoring offense
Two years ago, UCF led the nation in scoring as they posted 48.2 points per game. Last season, the Knights remained a top-six offensive scoring unit with a scoring average of 43.2 points. Through the first month of 2019, they are outpacing those lofty averages from each of the past two years and are poised to move up the FBS charts in the upcoming month.
Currently sitting at an even 49 points per game, the Knights should score at least that many points against Cincinnati and Temple. Throw in a game against East Carolina that has all the makings of a runaway blowout, and it will almost certainly add up to put UCF up above a 50-point scoring average.
The five teams sitting above them in the FBS scoring charts heading into October are heading into stretches where they face some stiff defenses. LSU and Alabama will have a hard time keeping up their hefty scoring pace once they enter SEC play, and the same is true of Ohio State and Penn State as they get deeper into Big Ten competition.
The only team that is almost certain to remain above UCF is Oklahoma, which has the benefit of facing Big 12 defenses. As Gabriel and crew pile up more big performances, they are going to situate themselves squarely among the three best scoring offenses in the country when the calendar flips again into November.
